Sculptor
Tuck Langland created the two-sided "She Slave" medallion
for Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina, which houses one of the
world's largest collections of American sculpture in its sculpture
gardens near Myrtle Beach. For more than 30 years, Brookgreen Gardens
has commissioned a medal for presentation to various museums and
individuals.
This
medal, based on the history of the region, shows on one side slaves
at work in rice fields and on the other side the face of one of
the slaves, recognizing her as a suffering human being. It is cast
in bronze and is three inches in diameter.
