In
the summer of 2001, the Memphis
Botanic Garden hosted the Sculptureworks, Inc. "The Garden of
Eden" Sculpture Show and Sale. The Garden of Eden Garden Club purchased
Walter Matia's sculpture
"Great Blue Heron Fountain" for permanent placement within
the Memphis Botanic Garden to initiate the show. Walter Matia's
sculpture "Yard Boss" was also chosen as the poster icon
for the show (shown at right).
The show presented more than 300 works of sculpture by the Sculptureworks,
Inc. consortium of artists. Several artists were also present during
the first week of the show to conduct lectures and workshops free
to the public.
Due
to the huge success of the first week of the show, the show was
extended throughout the summer of 2001 to allow more visitors to
the Memphis Botanic Garden to enjoy the sculpture in its lovely
garden setting.
