In
the fall of 2003, the City of Danville, along with the Danville
Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Fischer Theatre, the Danville
Public Library, and The Heron Restaurant hosted the Sculptureworks,
Inc. "Touching Leaves . . ." Sculpture Show and Sale.
The City of Danville purchased a sculpted brick mural entitled "Danville,
U.S.A.", creating a city park space at Temple
Plaza in downtown Danville, in order to initiate the show. "Danville
U.S.A." was unveiled on August 1, 2003.
The show presented more than 300 works of sculpture by the Sculptureworks,
Inc. consortium of artists. The works were successfully displayed
inside of The Heron Restaurant, The Fischer Theatre, the Danville
Public Library, The Heartland Center, Temple Plaza, and along Vermilion
Street.
Several artists were at the show to conduct lectures and workshops
free to the public. Throughout the week, Paul
Oestreicher helped Sculptureworks, Inc. to teach clay classes
to 981 schoolchildren from the Danville area. Paul also held several
slide show presentations discussing his inspirations in sculpting
"Touching
Leaves Woman", which was selected as the poster icon for
the show.
